So that, a few years later, when I was asked to articulate a poetics for some important publication, I could only write: THE REQUIREMENTS OF OUR LIFE IS THE FORM OF OUR ART. Knowing for certain no one would know what I was talking about, what that meant. Or that the "us" was -- the women.
